You can fill in the blanks with almost anything, as long as you’re selling something most people find difficult. For example: Successful sales secrets revealed.

The title of this article, 20 proven ad headlines that work is a variation on the theme.

Discover the secret to ………

Discovering things implies excitement. Discovering secrets adds even more spice to the mix. Naturally, you’d only use these words if you’re replacing the blank with something exciting to your intended audience.

Don’t use it if you’re selling something hum-drum. Nobody worth selling to wants to the discover the secret to vacuum cleaners.

Discover the secret of ………

This variation is best used when you’re dealing with something previously known to another group of people, and of great value to your target market. For example: Discover the ancient healing secrets of the Incas.

Anyone else want to get rich today?

Here’s another question most people will answer with a resounding ‘yes.’ The power comes with the implication that you’re offering a speedy way to get rich.

Lose 5 pounds in just 7 days

Do you offer a weight loss program? Then you want people to get the idea that your product delivers results fast. And ‘just 7 days’ seems faster than ‘one week.’

Five reasons why ……… beats the pants off ………

Does your product outperform a better-known competitor? Then this headline was written with you in mind.

You’re going to need to be certain you can back up your claim, because the rest of your ad won’t work if you don’t immediately follow up this headline with some compelling evidence.

This headline sets you up as the man with the plan in the mind of your target audience. It states you’re already doing what they want to do, and now you’re ready to show them how.

That’s a very powerful proposition, and you get to make it right there at the start of your ad.

How to double your income in 7 days flat

Maybe you can’t make this claim. If not, then adapt it to suit your purposes. The key points to get here are…

  • The headline is specific (double your income)
  • The headline is time-bound (7 days)
  • The headline offers the reader something he/she wants
  • The headline uses the word ‘flat’ to make ’7 days’ seem more immediate

It’s the breakthrough working mom’s have been praying for

Use this only if your product…

  • Really does do something new
  • Is something working mom’s will find useful

Naturally, you can adapt the headline to your specific target market. For example…

It’s the breakthrough seniors have been praying for

This variation on the ‘working mom’ headline will only work if your target market is likely to believe in the power of prayer, and your product does actually solve some problem faced by that market.

Your ad needs to go on an explain how the problem is solved.

Announcing the skin-care breakthrough you’ve been waiting for

This is another example of how you can target specific groups of people right from your ad’s headline. In this case, the product is used to reach out to your desired audience, rather than a direct appeal to a defined group.

What your ……… is too afraid to tell you

Anyone who sells something in a new way that benefits the buyer, can put this headline to good use. For example: Here’s something your bank is too scared to tell you.

Your target market will find this approach hard to resist, assuming you have something useful to tell them.

6 things your ……… doesn’t want you to know

This variation on the ‘afraid to tell you’ headline takes a slightly different approach. By making a more specific claim, the power of the headline increases.

The ‘doesn’t want you to know’ phrase adds intrigue by implying the reader is being disadvantaged in some way. This helps to establish you as the good guy, assuming you have ’6 things’ to report that are genuinely useful to the prospect.

Everybody said it was impossible. Now they’re asking me how I did it

Is your offer unbelievable? Are you trying to sell something that seems too good to be true? Then this baby is your salvation. For example: Everybody said I’d never earn $100,000 a year online. Now they’re begging me to show them how I did it.

Compelling, isn’t it? It’s a great way to get past your target market’s natural scepticism.

I don’t know about you but the more technical side of website building and blogging can leave me cold and confused. However,  I have realised lately that as my Blog is the centre of my Social Marketing hubb, that I had better make an effort to better understand the basics of SEO.

The problem is where to go to get the information I needed in a language that a novice could understand because up until today everything I have read kind of assumed that I knew more than I did so it all went over my head a bit.

Then I stumbled across Aaron Torong (http://www.aarontorng.com) and finally the light bulb went off in my head.

Aaron has written a great piece about SEO – - and guess what? I understood it!

It was something of a relief to read such a neat, well described and concise breakdown of SEO – and Aaron was right …

But, sometimes to come up with the right headline can be a bit of a headache. So  to help you out,  the writers at Speed Buzz recommend a tried and tested tool called Linkbait Generator.

Only a few hours ago I had no idea what DoFollow and NoFollow Blogs were or why that was important to me!

Now I understand why DoFollow is crucial to my Blog’s success, the relevance of link building, page ranking,  how to increase my page visibility and popularity with those all important search engines and get a bit more Google Love…

… and if it’s OK with you I’m going to share what I’ve discovered

What is DoFollow and NoFollow and why is it important to you?

Now if you are like me the phrases DoFollow and NoFollow may well go right over your head make your eyes glaze over, but bear with me here because the information I am about to impart is, if you implement it immediately, is going to help the search engines RANK your Blog higher.

The simple explanation of PageRank is that each website that includes a link to your website or deep-links to one of your web-pages is voting for your website or your web-page.

These types of links, are called back-links.

What is a ‘back-link’ and why do you need it?

A back-link is an incoming link posted or created on another site resulting in a clickable link that leads back to your website.

Back-links are one important way that the search engines estimate and measure the popularity of every website. The more popular your site the higher your page rank, and the higher the page rank (from 0 to 10) the better it will rank on Google.

To gain any kind of rank it is imperative that you have back-links and it is essential that your site increases its back-links on a weekly basis.

The greater the quality (higher the page rank) of the website that links to your website the greater the inferred quality of your website.

Therefore getting back-links, especially from high ranking websites,  increases your visibility to the search engines and improves your chances for getting closer to Google’s top pages.

OK, if we are clear about that crucial snippet of information (and it took me a while to get it) we can move on to why as a Blogger,  it’s important to understand the difference between DoFollow and NoFollow Blogs.

I’ll do my best to keep this clear and simple (I’m no techie, I’m simply doing my best to understand how Blog popularity works and hopefully demystifying things for you at the same time icon smile Why is DoFollow & NoFollow Crucial to YOUR Google Page Rank?

A NoFollow Blog is simply a blog that has a code (hyperlink inclusion) that tells search engines to ignore your link. This means that when you comment on another persons blog YOUR blog does not get any credibility or influence and your page rank will not go up.

Now, this was not a malicious act on the part of the coders – it was a strategy set up to helps overwhelmed webmasters disallow spammers from gaining any kind of page rank advantage by popping an unwanted link on a popular page.

Great for webmasters but  this made the essential process of effective link building difficult for honest people too.

So What is DoFollow?

DoFollow is simply an internet slang term given to web pages or sites that dis-allow NoFollow.

So, when you leave a comment on a DoFollow Blog you DO get a back-link that the search engines track to YOUR website (link juice). Furthermore when you own a DoFollow Blog you

    7. Write like you talk. If you want to connect with a wide audience  write using words that are easy to understand. Avoid using jargon and words that you need a degree to understand. When you do this, the article will flow better and be more attractive to your audience.

    8. Use formatting to emphasize the best aspects of your post. Hone in on the points you want to emphasize, your funniest lines, your most important bits of advice, your best resources. Make them stand out.

    9. Write numbered list articles (like this one). These are very popular as readers tend to scan over the details and skip to the highlights so you might as well give those to them. Most people do not read an article word for word.

    10. Create a compelling headline. A weak headline will cripple your post’s chances of success. It’s essential that you put a lot of work into getting it right. Brainstorm and play with words and ideas to make it snappy and stand out

    11. People are impatient. Let people know immediately  “what am I getting in exchange for my attention?”

    Use your introduction to highlight why the reader should stick with your post. In other words, tell your reader what you’re going to tell them. There’s a reason why article introductions usually consist of:

    “In this post, I’m going to do this, this and that.”

    12. Use humour and personality. People want to read information, but they want to be entertained as well. make a point to find the way to make tips stand out is to inject a little quirkiness and humour into the writing style.

    13. Everyone loves a story. Give concrete examples and don’t be afraid to spill the beans and share your personal experiences to back up your points. Tell how you faced a problem and how you solved it. Your audience will lap it up.

    With all that said, at first you may not win a literary prize, and yet, as you follow the thirteen steps that I have outlined above you will be able to produce effective interesting and sticky written content for your website.

    You never know, these articles could become the special sauce that triggers an upsurge of interest in your website and lead you to greater  on-line business success.

    Always leave your readers a call to action. If you want your readers to take a specific action,  like clicking on a web page or joining  you on twitter after they read your post TELL THEM. People are very happy to do what you ask – but they do need to know what you want then to do.

    Why is Writing Your Goals So Important To Your  Personal Success?

    writing your goals1 300x199 Why is Writing Your Goals So Important To Your Success?When you consider how much more effective and productive people are when they write  a ‘To-Do’ list (which are simply mini goals),   and when they make a plan, it seems incredible to me that only about 5% of the population actually takes the time to put their thought on paper and actively start writing their Goals and Dreams.

    Maybe that is why so few people actually are living the life that they would like to be living.

    It has been shown in various studies that writing your goals  sets the foundations for a roadmap to your success, but what is it about the act of putting pen to paper,  or feeling the tips of your fingers tapping the keys that is so important to your achievement process?

    In part, it is due to what is known as the Reticular Activating System or RAS which is a feature of the human brain the filters information.

    The simple act of  writing your goals focuses your brain’s  attention into a particular area and filtering out other thoughts, external distractions and activities. Writing your goals down will etch then at forefront of your mind.  Then as you re-write and think about your goals, your brain is acutely focused in that direction.  Suddenly you start to become  more aware of things that are related to and important you,  and before you know it you have set a chain of events in  motion that draws you toward the outcome you want to achieve.

    A quotation from Goethe illustrates this eloquently:

    “All sorts of things occur to help one that would not otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamt would come his way.”

    That is why setting personal goals, committing oneself to specific new levels of achievement, WORKS!

    There is a caveat to that statement though.

    Goal setting and writing works when the goals are properly formed and in alignment with your identity, beliefs and values.

    Making new choices demands that we change our perceptions and behaviour.  That  can cause inner conflicts and concerns that become outward blocks that inhibit our progress.

    Where you want to create massive growth and progress in your life you may need to dig a little deeper, shed some outmoded ideas and work on your core values too.

    All this week I will be writing about why most people fail to get the results they strive for, how to write goals that  are compelling and effective and what you can do to avoid the self-sabotage trap.
