However, most of us do not realize that when we are under stress we tend to hold our breath or take short, shallow breaths. Because oxygen is the most important nutrient for the heart, brain and every other major organ of the body, limiting our intake can have far reaching effects on the body. Therefore, breathing exercises can be very helpful for reducing stress, and relaxes the body as well as the mind.

Anyone who has ever noticed how an infant's abdomen rises and falls with each breath has experienced the art of proper deep breathing. Most adults today tend to fill only the upper chest when they breathe and thus miss how the increased oxygen intake relieves tension and improves metal alertness.

This deep breathing exercise to relieve stress can be done in any location:
1. Sitting straight in a chair, place one hand on your abdomen and breathe in deeply through your nose counting to ten.
2. Hold the breath for a count of five and then release slowly through your mouth to a count of ten.
3. While you are holding the breath, focus on your abdomen to ensure it is extended as far as you can comfortably extend it.
It is good to start with five of these exercises, but even two will have an immediate affect.

Here's another breathing exercise that can be done while sitting:
1. Take a deep breath as you drop your chin toward your chest, touching the chest if possible.
2. Exhale as you gently raise your head slowly to an upright position. Repeat as desired.
It may also be helpful to do some “head rolls,” in which the head is rolled slowly to the right, to the chest, to the left, and to the chest in a semicircle.

Robert asks…

Why are stress management skills important?

Please identify the importance of stress management skills and where breathing exercises fit into stress management.

Maya Mendoza answers:

Skills in managing stress are important but much more important is the awareness to know when you are stressed and to be able to recognize how you are creating it in your life. Without awareness, stress management is just like putting band aids on a wound. It doesn't prevent the wound. Only awareness can do that. So a better question is "how do I cultivate the awareness to know when I am stressed and the awareness to know what I need to do to stop creating stress?" This website below will help you answer these questions. Check in particular the pages on awareness.

Jenny asks…

Breathing exercises for stress relief?

Its part of my health and social unit, I need about 4 breathing exercises I can research? and write about in detail that are valid, not like breath in and out! exercises used in stress management.

Maya Mendoza answers:

Well, I don't have much detail about it, but it's one that works with me!

I want to be able to overcome this obstacle myself and come out of it a stronger and more independent woman.

I've decided to read up on meditating. I've heard nothign but good things about it and was wondering if there are any pros out there, if you could give a beginner meditator some tips.

Thanks!

Maya Mendoza answers:

There are many different meditation techniques, but all of them have one thing in common: they all cause you to become more self-aware, more watchful of your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations.

Some techniques are still: for example, you sit and watch your breath. Others are active, asking you to move, dance, make sounds, etc.

One meditation technique is called gibberish. It is great for releasing stress. Make all kinds of sounds, as long as they are not a real language. Pretend you are talking in a language no one knows. Make loud sounds, soft sounds, angry sounds, sad sounds, just create any non-word sounds you like. Really get into it! And move your body around too.

After five or ten minutes, stop, and sit silently for five minutes, becoming aware of your thoughts, feelings, or sensations. Just watch. Do not try to change or fix anything. Do not try to stop the mind. Love yourself, and accept whatever happens from your heart.

Charles asks…

New Buddhist here: any meditation tips?

I have realized recently the Buddhism is the way to self and spiritual enlightenment. I have very basic knowledge of meditation from a beginners class, but can any Buddhists share their techniques for deeper meditation? Where would you suggest I go on my quest to further my meditation.

Please, I ask no one that follows a different path to respond. Please be courteous. I do not need to know that you are not a Buddhist.

Maya Mendoza answers:

Take a peek at Samanta Meditation ( meditation on the breath ) for starters. It is used to calm the mind for deeper meditations like Vispassana.

Another popular starter meditation would be meditation on Loving-Kindness ( Metta Bhavana ) where the devotee would meditate on sending loving and kind thoughts to 5 catergories of people, Our father, our mother, our friend, our enemy ( someone we do not like ) and someone who was neutral to us ( just a regular person on the street ). This meditation helps us to develop a Loving heart and a gentle nature of Equanamity and Equality.

I hope others might have a more vast selection to help you start off...

Add: Dove is Right too... Christians should Meditate on the Loving Qualities of Jesus to quell their rage... As many Mahayana Buddhist Schools consider him an Emanation of a Bodhisattva who went to Israel to teach those who were ready for practices of devotion. Of course, any deity with Love and Compassion would be good... Especially of course Lord Buddha

Powered by Yahoo! Im usually really confident and happy but when i get put into new environments where im with people i dont know i get really nervous and start acting strange, probably because i think theyre not going to like me/ im goin to stuff up the job etc. How can i conquer my fears and how can i manage my anxious ways when i do start working?

Maya Mendoza answers:

I personally suffer from some social anxiety disorders and understand what you are saying...Even if someone tells you "Just don't let it bother you.." you can't always do that...Of course, the awkwardness will be over within a few days. In the meantime just smile and have short undetailed discussions with you co-workers, not revealing too much about yourself (or you will be having to explain particulars about certain aspects of your life to lots of people...that situation alone literally made me lose my breath mid-sentence when being new on a job)

Again, just smile, be considerate and nice to people and after a few days you begin to feel yourself blending in. At this point you will naturally feel yourself opening up and talking more with others. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to just bust the doors wide open with tons of communication, etc.

I don't really realize how stressed I am until I stop for a moment and realize how big a toll it's taking on my body and my mind and how generally exhausted I am.

I know basic things like listening to music or art or reading or exercise (dance for me) but I have to be careful when doing those things cause I have a problem of just totally zoning out and getting lost in my own wonderland to escape whats bothering me..and if I do that it's really hard to pull back to reality. Enjoy without guilt a few selfish pleasures. Life is short be willing to eat desert first. Tell people exactly what you want and completely appreciate the indulgence when you get it.

1.) What's wrong with an on your own society? I dont want or need a sociast state to tell me to share what I produce. Isnt that in reality the function of a free market free of government intervention? Ive been on my own for most 49 years and dont want or need Billary to direct my finances.

2.) Here's a better and more effective way to save people money. ELIMINATE the earned income credit, go to a flat tax and forget socialized health insurance. Its a nice pipe dream but look no farther than Canada or Britian to see what mess the government makes of it.

I'll just say this about the so-called porkbusters. I'm getting damn tired of hearing from them. They have been nothing but trouble ever since Katrina.

This says Lott views the taxpayers as his own personal bank account for getting re elected.

They went the way of the dinosaur. For eons now all remaining life on Earth has been insects and microbes. Over the past hundred million years insects have been evolving into humongous specimens. The mighty cockroach has reached a height of six foot. It has learned to walk on its hind legs. Its four front appendages has grown little hands with four fingers and opposable thumbs. They have learned to rub two sticks together and create fire. After inventing the wheel their technology grew in leaps and bounds seeing them through the industrial age, the age of technology and space age. Yes they conquered space discovering other galaxies and other worlds. Still one remaining question would forever plague them. "If we came from beetles, why are there still beetles?"

Maya Mendoza answers:

During reproduction, genetic variety is brought in and mutation can be introduced too ( errors, ...). Some mutation/error will survive (eg not cause death of foetus or prevent future reproduction) and be passed on further generations.
The change that mutation/error brings, is not always obvious. It can be combined to another change before being manifest.
The change can be subtil and not bring any immediate advantage now. If conditions ( weather, ... ) change, maybe the change will be good. Maybe fatal.

Some organisms will survive, other not. Some changes will be passed on, some other will not.
Over millions of years, sometimes the same changes will reappear.

This is a fascinating field of study, I invite you to look it over.

Sandra asks…

cpwe raw is war epiaode 9?

intro and pyro

evolution walks down to the ring with fancy suits and ties (with the exception of big mike who's taken the night off)

triple h grabs the mic: (big chorus of wooo's and cheers) You know. . . for the past few weeks after the ppv, i've been asked a million times. . . . 'who is the gm of cpwe'? who has the power?' well the fact is. . . evolution single handly took care of nexxus. Bg Mike single handly ended Mr. E's career. I think its simple. Evolution is your solution. (big cheers from audience) The fact is we are the most powerfull group in this buisness today and with us reuniting and big mike as the leader, evolution is now unstopable. And fred flisntone, you wanna know who your oppeent is tonight . . well i can only say that its gonna be a suprise. And that same suprise goes for shaun cold as well because this man makes his return as well and he's looking for revenge on you shaun cold. (we want angle chants start up in the crowd) So for all of you who think you can cross evolutions path . . . think again. (evolutions theme hits as they leave the ring)

new rhytham & blues vs. wonderboy & hurricane, finish: hurricane has honky tonk man in a chokeslam position as elvis c. brown runs in to save him but hurricane grabs him by the throat as well, then wonderboy grabs elvis c. brown and hits wonderpie on elvis as hurricane hits a chokeslam on honky tonk for the 1-2-3.

josh mathiews; shaun cold, we heard earlier tonight that triple h said that the suprise was looking for revenge on you. do you have any idea on what this revenge could be?

shaun cold: i don't know and i don't care. its obvious that he can't be talking about kurt angle. i beat his @ss on the very first episode of cpwe and i broke his damn ankle to pieces. so triple h, whatever this suprise is, you don't scare me one bit and as it goes for you jeff h@rdy, as much as i respect you, i am walking out the new intercontinental champion and theres nothing you can do about it.

luis v vs. veneriom: luis v has veneriom in an ankle lock. Veneriom is about to tap when the lights go out for about 20 seconds when the lights come back on the ref is down. luis v still has the ankle lock on veneriom when father james mitchell is in the ring. he breathes fire into luis v's face. veneriom imediatly gets up and excecutes the underhook tombstome on luis v. the ref crawls over and hits the 1-2-3. Father james mitchell does an evil smile as he raises venerioms hand.

shaun cold vs. jeff h@rdy: finish: jeff tries to hit twist of fate on shaun cold when shaun cold counters h@rdy and trips h@rdy, drags him into the center of the ring and locks on the regal stretch. wrenching back as hard he can, h@rdy raises his hand about to tap when the lights go out when kurt angles tna theme hits and the lights go out. kurt angle then rises up from the top of the ramp on his long awaited return and starts walking down to the ring. shaun cold imiedatly releases the hold and runs to the outside to brawl with angle. both exchange punches when all of a sudden shaun cold kicks angle in the gut and then tries to irish whip angle into the steel steps. angle reverses and then sends shaun cold into the steel steps. he then throws shaun cold into the crowd. the ref eventually counts to ten and h@rdy is the new intercontinental champ. jimmy krauss shows up outta no where, turns h@rdy around and hits terror upgrade on h@rdy. krauss then grabs the intercontinental championship and holds it high overtop h@rdy then drops the belt on him.

fred flinstone is in the ring waiting for his opponent when the lights go out again for about 20 seconds. when the lights go on veneriom (with father james mitchell) has flinstone in an underhook tombstomb position and hits it. father james mitchell grabs the mic.

james mitchell: seems to me, that this man (points to veneriom) is a serious number 1 threat to the cpwe championship. Big mike, you claim that veneriom is a "no name scrub". Well big mike, i say that this "no name scrub" has just dragged you into the darkness of hell and into the pit of flames. Cuz my friend at the cpwe royal rumble, you will get a first class hand on what hell feels like and you'll feel what it feels like when you come face to face with the devil himself. big mike. . . hell begins now.(the lights go out again for 20 seconds. the lights come back on and big mike hits the f5 on veneriom. father james mitchell bails out of the ring and walks up the ring background as he stares at big mike. big mike is on the edge of the ring when he raises the cpwe championship over his shoulder)

this ends the show. get your post show promos in for the episode 10 preview)

Maya Mendoza answers:

Promo-now cpwe universe i am your new intercontinental champion and jimmy krauss

The reason I ask is that the scriptures reveal in the words of Peter in his second epistle chapter 3,that Peter upheld the belief in creation and the destruction of the world by water. He even warns that people will deliberately forget this.

1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

How much of Sripture and what Peter writes and proclaims is now believed by the Pope today?

Maya Mendoza answers:

>> Does the Pope endorse the theory of Evolution?

As I understand it, he endorses an oxymoron called "theistic evolution." Such a doctrine (1) accepts the outright lies of Man, (2) discounts the power of God, (3) turns God into a deceiver, and (4) discredits God's stated Word.

Recap:
2 days ago, XWA Returned! On the return show, XWA had a major draft. In the draft Evolution picked up Abyss, Alex Shelley, Batista, Big Show, Chris Jericho, Chris Sabin, CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, Ezekiel Jackson, Hurricane Helms, Jack Swagger, John Cena, Kane, The Miz, R-Truth, Rey Mysterio, Sheamus, Triple H, and Vladimir Kozlov. Evolution also obtained the XWA Continental Championship when CM Punk won it. Now lets get on with the show

Just Like you by Three Days Grace hits as Evolution gets underway

Promo 1- *JBL is in the middle of the ring*
JBL: Welcome to XWA Evolution! I am the former GM of Xtremist, and new GM of Evolution. Now tonight, we will have 2 big singles matches, where the winners will face off at Xtremania for the XWA Elite Championship. The 1st match will be Chris Jericho vs Batista and the 2nd match will be Triple H vs Kane. Also, the XWA Continental Championship will be on the line, as i am giving R-Truth a shot at CM Punks Championship.

Match 1: Motorcity Machine Guns vs Vladimir Kozlov and Ezikiel Jackson

Match 2: XWA Vixens Championship match
Michelle McCool vs Maria vs Layla

Promo 2: *Chris Jericho walks up to John Cena*
Jericho: So Cena, i see that your not in the world title picture for Xtremania. Its obvious JBL doesnt like you. I mean why should he like you. I mean, you only have 5 moves, and you really have no wrestling skill. Cena, compared to me, your nothing. I mean, I am a 2 time World Champion here in XWA, and you still have yet to win your 1st.
Cena: Jericho, I respect that, but you dont go bursting up into people face's and start saying your better than them. Thats what starts a fire. And you know what Jericho, your lighting my fire. So Jericho, i advise you to get out of my lockeroom before i brutally beat you down. Things will get ugly if you continue!
Jericho: OK
*Jericho quickly hits the Codebreaker on John Cena*

Match 3: Winner goes to Xtremania as a contender for the XWA Elite Championship
Chris Jericho vs Batista
(((((I will choose the winner for storyline purposes))))))
The Match goes on for about 17 minutes, and we see Jericho running towards Batista. Batista then pushes the referee towards Jericho, as Jericho hits the Codebreaker on the referee. Batista then charges at Jericho with a Spear, but Jericho gets out of the way, as Batista turns around, and gets hit With The Codebreaker. Jericho falls to the mat, as he goes for the pin....... The referee is still knocked out, and all of a sudden, John Cena comes out! Cena goes behind Jericho, as Jericho gets up, and recieves an Attitude Adjustment. John Cena goes for the pin and the groggy referee counts! 1..2..3! John Cena wins and is the contender for the Elite Championship.

Match 4: XWA Continental Championship Match
(c)CM Punk vs R-Truth

Promo 3: *Triple H is seen Backstage*
Triple H: Look at who i have to face for a shot at the Elite Championship... Kane! Now Kane, we have had so many classic matches in the past, but this is XWA, a new Game... Kane, I am going take you down and win, then face John Cena at Xtremania for the XWA Elite Championship, and become Champion. Kane, your just the first person in my way from making it to my rightful place... XWA ELITE CHAMPION!

Main Event: Winner goes to Xtremania as a contender for the XWA Elite Championship
Kane vs Triple H

2. General relativity of Einstein
3. Quantum mechanics

Scientists of the world had no preconceived theory or any definite guideline on which to proceed. Following the principle of trial and error they started working in various fields. Based on their insufficient findings, when they discovered something, they formulated a theory out of their own imagination that it might have been that way. Thus, the actual scientific findings which they discovered out of their hard labor and sincere efforts may have been correct, but the theories that they formulated were based on their imaginations, and their imaginations were conditioned to the limitations of their own understanding. Thus, the theories, that are in some way related to the creation or evolution of the world and are beyond the scope of their direct experiments, are not correct.
1. The evolution theory.
The Theory of Evolution was originally introduced by the early thinkers and it was further emphasized by Darwin when he first produced his book called the “Origin of Species” in 1859. Later on some more people added their theories to the evolution theory of mankind.
General concept of the evolution theory.
It tells that about three and a half billion years ago some microorganisms like bacteria originated and took the shape of amoeba (microscopic unicellular protozoa), and from that all the plants, trees, worms and animals were evolved. Mammals, birds, fish and reptiles were all evolved from aquatic worms about 600 million years ago.
The very first Primates appeared about 70 million years ago who were fruit eating, tree living shrews (like mice). They became monkeys around 40 million years ago, apes around 20 million years ago, gorillas around 8 million years ago, and then chimpanzees around 5 million years ago. Then came an amazing change. The semi-erect walking habit of gorillas and chimpanzees changed, their spinal curvature was straightened, proportion of arms and legs was corrected, foot formation was modified, size of the brain was increased, position of the head was adjusted in order to see straight, and, around 4 million years ago, they were transformed into bipeds who could walk on two feet and were called the first Hominids. Then final refinements happened. Their dental structure was fully modified and the size and the length of their teeth was adjusted. Their brain nerve cells were increased and it went through specialized development to enhance its capabilities, and between 1,500,000 and 300,000 years ago, they adopted a human shape and were called Homo erectus. Between 400,000 and 250,000 years ago Homo erectus evolved into Homo sapiens. By 100,000 years ago they evolved into modern man, and were called Homo sapiens sapiens. They first appeared in Africa and Asia about 100,000 years ago. Then they showed up in Europe around 40,000 to 35,000 years ago, America 30,000 years ago and Australia 25,000 years ago. Their brain size was almost double than that of the gorillas. Homo erectus used hunting tools, made fire and used skin garments. That’s the theory of human evolution.
The theorists use certain terms to express their process of evolution, like: natural selection, adaptation, recombination (of genes), genetic drift and mutation.
According to this theory: (a) Fish or aquatic animals, when exposed to the grounds, developed a need to breathe properly, so they developed a lung-like structure and became frogs (an amphibian). These frogs kept on jumping all the time and disturbing the atmosphere, so the nature pushed them down and they became reptiles like lizards, snakes and crocodiles. Tired of their slow motion they then evolved into running dinosaurs, from a miniature size to a real monstrous size. Feeling great they stamped the grounds of Asia, Europe and America when an unknown natural calamity happened and all the big dinosaurs died around 65 million years ago. They lived between 250 to 65 million years ago.
(b) A few fossils dating 140 to 120 million years ago were found mostly in Germany and one near London. They were believed to be about the size of a medium to large crow and of an estimated body weight of 200 to 500 grams. They were named ‘Archaeopteryx’ and had two legs and a feathered wing-like structure with claws on their wings, and dinosaur-like mouth and teeth. On that basis, the theorists formed the idea that dinosaurs became birds, but which bird was the first, they didn’t know, and how did they shrink to hummingbird size, they also don’t know. Thus, according to their theory, a whole hoard of thousands of kinds of birds were formed whose very remote ancestor was a frog.
(c) Certain walking animals (of the ground) when exposed to sea waters were transformed to dolphins and whales. (d) Some kind of primitive cat (which no longer exists) developed into tigers and lions, but in certain circumstances it remained short

Maya Mendoza answers:

Evolution, quantum mechanics, and general relativity are useful for making accurate predictions. Quantum mechanics, in particular, is used to make the most accurate predictions of any theory in history.

However, these theories are inconsistent and incompatible at certain boundary conditions, indicating that there are still significant gaps in our understanding of nature and how the universe works.

Powered by Yahoo! Old Town. It's cheesy, but has some cool shops. And old cars on friday and saturday.

Downtown disney has come clubs. There's better clubs in downtown orlando, but you have to be a local to know where to go and to get vip and such.

Thats about it. Google orlando attractions for better ones. These are just the ones as a tourist i would like to know about.

Powered by Yahoo! Wallahi my dear sisters in Islam, we should not overlook this blessing that Allah (SWT) has granted us with, this blessing of Islam is and should be the most precious thing in our life. Yes, the most important, Islam should be dearer to you than your own parents, Islam should be dearer to you than your own husband, and Islam should be dearer to you than your own child as this religion will guide you. It will give you success in all aspects of life; it will give you the respect you're looking for, it will give you the honour you're looking for and more importantly it will give you the guidance you need so that you may attain the everlasting bliss from the hereafter. Remember o sisters, remember your role in society, do not be little in your job in society, you are the mothers who look after the family, you are the one who show love and respect to its members, you are the first of the teachers of this Ummah, you are the soothers and carers of the men of this ummah, the success of this ummah lays upon your shoulders o sisters of Islam. Remember khadija, the first wife of prophet Muhammad (SAW), she was one of the greatest women that ever lived. In the early stages of the prophet hood of our beloved prophet Muhammad (SAW), she protected him, she gave him finance, she cared for him, she comforted him and most importantly she believed in him. My dear sisters in Islam, as we look around in today's society, we notice that many sisters are being mislead, we notice that more and more sisters are living for this world and not for the hereafter, more and more sisters do not know who Allah (SWT) is, more and more sisters are leaving the prayers, more and more sisters are taking off the hijab and more and more sisters are being seen in nightclubs and pubs, dating men and having a good time. My dear sisters in Islam, we must wake up before it's too late, we must start changing and make Islam our priority in life, we must love Allah (SWT) than anything else in this world, we must stay focused on all this deception that is happening, we must remember the very reason of our existence as Allah (SWT) said in the Quran: I have not created the jinn nor mankind only, so that they worship Me, meaning Allah (SWT), my dear sisters in Islam, if you love diamonds and pearls, do not be deceived by this worldly treasures as the treasure in the hereafter is far greater, look at the sign of dead, as we speak someone dies and they will have eternal lives, will they live in the paradise and enjoys its bliss or will they suffer in the hellfire? And my final quote to you is: will you choose what is best for you or will you lose yourself in this life and in the hereafter.

I pray that Allah swt makes it easy for us all and grant us jannah tul firdus AMEEN!

"For those who aren't reading BD scans (*highfive!* ... no high five? damn, i am alone), the spoilers are definitely confirmed. Today's Breaking Dawn quote:

Jacob: "I'll kill you myself! I'll do it now!" bitch better not be talking to rosalie

has been spotted in the scans, which officially seals the deal. Unless one clever twat (not Twat, notice there's no capitalization. SOMETIMES IT IS JUST A WORD) has telepathy they haven't told me about.

But history has proven over and over, in our country and other republics, that the government that limits and prosecutes corporate (and political) wrong-doing like it’s supposed to without taking control of industries is the best possible form of government. A national emergency can also scare a people into thinking that a major change to a more government-controlled nation might be necessary to get through the crisis. But once freedom is surrendered, only a revolution (likely a very bloody one) will get it back because the people who wanted and got control NEVER surrender it back to its original state. Big government bureaucracy does an extremely poor and MORE costly job of running practically any industry, compared to corporations in a capitalist (free market) system. Even internal corruption is much greater within government agencies than it is within corporations. And the appeal of today’s Democratic party is the promise that they will tax those who hold the majority of the wealth and give (some of) this to the lower classes. But this is a lie since they but not their devotees know that that wealth is secured in forms and countries that make it untouchable. It’s the already burdened, productive, openly tax-contributing middle and upper middle classes who bear the burden of their programs and gimmes, further stifling the American economy.

Consider the well-intentioned socialist experiment of the USSR. Government-controlled pay removed all creativity and incentive to excel. People naturally devolved into deception in order to get more than they honestly needed. This is why people now, here, who don’t have to pay for medical care go to the doctor far more often than they do when they have to pay for it. Soviet socialism caused that country to stagnate while the capitalist West improved and grew. For its economic survival, the USSR resorted to militarily take-overs of other more prosperous nations, oppressing them as well. A large black market arose in the country, and enforcing the socialist system against this required a more intrusive and brutal police state. Hundreds of millions of innocent citizens have been murdered supposedly for the security of this dictatorial system called socialism (under Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung, Hitler [a fascist socialist], Mussolini, and others). All of these unavoidable results of socialism GREATLY oppressed the Russian people, and do to this day. The grass is not greener on the other side, it’s just red. Let us avoid this mistake of others learned the hard way. Our Constitutional Capitalistic Democratic Republic has been the envy of the world for 200+ years.

Realistically, in the U.S. today, most would agree that there is way too much corruption between corporations and our politicians. This problem may or may not be reversible short of a revolution against the drivers and participants of the corruption. Quotes by our nation’s founders including Thomas Jefferson show that they were convinced that such a distasteful action would likely eventually be required because of human nature to become corrupt. But my point is that changing our government form or its ROLE must never be considered or permitted by ‘we the people’. And today’s Democratic party clearly wants such changes. They entice voters by promising to tax the very wealthy, even though they know such wealth is untouchable and it’s the middle classes who get the further burden. But that doesn’t stop the angry poorer voters from supporting them.
- child of an angry Democrat

Maya Mendoza answers:

Yes they are a socialist party... But the republicans are heading that way too just at a halting crawl as opposed to a sprint.
What is truly ironic is that the majority of the democrat party bigwigs are all super-rich elites.

Powered by Yahoo! I have a hard time not thinking about stupid things, my mind wanders.

Maya Mendoza answers:

That's absolutely normal. The advice given in books ranging from Dr. Benson, author of "The Relaxation Response," to the Dalai Lama is to not fight those wandering thoughts. The more you fight them, the further away you get from a still mind. Accept them and let them pass. If they're strong, think about them for a minute, then promise yourself to spend time with those thoughts later.

That'll always happen, but in time they'll come up less often won't bother you much.

I don't know what method you're using or how long you've been practicing, but, in the beginning, you might try having or focusing your attention on, say, soothing music, a candle flame, a scent, or a religious item that's meaningful to you (a small statue, mandala, a cross, Star of David, the OM symbol, etc.).

However, whether religious or secular, the purpose of meditation is to withdraw from all external sensory input (sound, sight, etc.). So the next step is to count breaths: On each exhale, count 1, then, 2, and so on, up to 10 (I like only going up to 4 -- whatever works!)

Or you could try a "mantra." There are prescribed mantras in Sanskrit (Hinduism) and Pali (Buddhism). You could choose a verse from a sacred text or a short prayer. You could even use a word or very short phrase of your own choosing: "calm," "still," "ocean," "love," etc. It's best to *think* the word as you exhale, but in some practices, the mantra is repeated aloud. Saying it aloud -- softly -- helps focus your mind.

Here are two excellent websites:

Secular:

Japa meditation (Hindu and Buddhist mantras):

If there is a "god/dess", then the line is always open, you don't need any ritual to talk. The meditation part, though, is that it is good to be in a comfortable place where you can still your mind while you speak and then be still for a while to let any answers come back. Then go about your business. If any answer is forthcoming, you will notice.
Blessings on your Journey!

Nancy asks…

meditation tips?

I am trying to find the best way to put myself in a very deep trans (spelling?)

Maya Mendoza answers:

Meditation can be divided into two different approaches. First, find an object like a candle, symbol, etc and maintain your focus on the selected object without allowing yourself to break your focus. You will slowly "join" with the object until you feel a deep transcendent connection to it. The second way is to focus on emptiness or nothing at all. This is the more challenging process but it will take you into a deeper state of consciousness. The main thing that you need to be constant with is to keep your spine straight, either in a chair, laying down, or sitting in cross-leg pose. Breath slowly and deeply from your naval, not your chest as most people do. Every time that you have a thought, just let it pass by. Start by doing this exercise for about 5 minutes a day until you can really relax then simply add time until you are doing between 20-60 minutes a day, but 20 will be fine. I would highly encourage you to practice yoga or tai chi before your meditation as your body may be the most distracting aspect of meditation. Remember that meditation is not religious; an atheist can successfully meditate, although I have never meet one who did.

Donald asks…

What are some good meditation tips?

I'm trying to attempt meditation, but I just can't seem to concentrate. Any tips to keep myself focused? Thanks!

Maya Mendoza answers:

Meditation is a very personal thing. Each of us sees things differently in our minds eye. It took me years to get my brain to see in pictures as I tend to see in words (it's not as rare as you might think.)
There are hundreds of ways to arrive at pushing energy out of your body and they all require a ton of practise. One of the most important things to remember is if your mind wanders, gently bring it back. Don't get discouraged as it will get better and better with practise.
The easiest is to lay on your back making sure no parts are crossed (feet, legs, fingers.) Picture a white ball (white equals positive energy) circling above your head (you can also end at your feet.) When you have collected the energy from your body, you will push it into the ball.Try to see your energy as sand, or a wind swirl swirling around in your feet. It will slowly come together and move out of your feet and up your calves. You watch the swirl gather more sand as it moves up your legs. As you leave a body part, know they are empty of energy and fully relaxed. Continue moving the swirl and collecting the sand all through your body until you have reached your head and the ball. Once it is all there, picture it flying out the top of your head and being absorbed by the ball.
If sounds around you can't be avoided, tell yourself the sounds only make you more relaxed.
There are tons of books, including Meditation for Dummies, that are available in the library, online or in book stores. They will tell you that visualization, patience and practise are the keys to meditation.
It's also a great idea, in my opinion, to get a tape and have someone talk you through it. It's the same as being hypnotized, but you are always in control.
I wish you much success. It will change your life if you stick with it.
PS. Use soft lighting if you can. Not darkness though because you will put yourself to sleep.

Linda asks…

Meditation tips.?

Maya Mendoza answers:

I wrote a Zen brochure for the Losus Sangha that I founded here In Ellensburg.

There are lots of different types of meditation; so try several until you find one that feels right for you.

I am a college student enrolled with four classes, twenty years old. And I'm working about thirty hours a week, sad part is 22-24 hours a week is from fri-sat. So I'm trying to manage school work, stress from work, studying, working out and trying to keep a social life. Yet, I feel like my life is dedicated just to work and school that's it. A lot of people say well at least you're making money, but at what extent does the money become almost worthless? Sure I make a decent amount but I'm stressing because I don't get to hang out with people much losing friends because of it and only got a good handful of friends. And I'm lucky if I actually get a chance to get out twice a week. My weekend hours usually go late never home before 10, and then i worry about studying. I can't relate to any of my family memebers because they never had to do this. And my oldest brother that graduated got really nice hours at work and was done by 2 with plenty of time to do everything.

What is the best way to manage this all together I'm getting stressed and I can't control it.

Thank you for your time reading this and hopefully commenting with some help.

There are high expectations and never enough time to meet them. Not to mention feeling pretty much always under-appreciated. It is affecting my health.

Tonight, as I was driving home alone in the car, I broke down in tears. Now at home, I've lost my appetite and just can't seem to unwind. I get it but it still manages to follow me home. Home is my sanctuary. How do i keep stress at work and leave it at work?

Maya Mendoza answers:

Don’t let stress make you sick. We tend to carry a higher burden of stress than we should. Often we aren’t even aware of our stress levels. Listen to your body, so that you know when stress is affecting your health. Here are ways to help you handle your stress.

Relax. It’s important to unwind. Each person has her own way to relax. Some ways include deep breathing, yoga, meditation, and massage therapy. If you can’t do these things, take a few minutes to sit, listen to soothing music, or read a book.

Make time for yourself. It’s important to care for yourself. Think of this as an order from your doctor, so you don’t feel guilty! No matter how busy you are, you can try to set aside at least 15 minutes each day in your schedule to do something for yourself, like taking a bubble bath, going for a walk, or calling a friend.

Sleep. Sleeping is a great way to help both your body and mind. Your stress could get worse if you don’t get enough sleep. You also can’t fight off sickness as well when you sleep poorly. With enough sleep, you can tackle your problems better and lower your risk for illness. Try to get seven to nine hours of sleep every night.

Eat right. Try to fuel up with fruits, vegetables, and proteins. Good sources of protein can be peanut butter, chicken, or tuna salad. Eat whole-grains, such as wheat breads and wheat crackers. Don’t be fooled by the jolt you get from caffeine or sugar. Your energy will wear off.

Get moving. Believe it or not, getting physical activity not only helps relieve your tense muscles, but helps your mood too! Your body makes certain chemicals, called endorphins, before and after you work out. They relieve stress and improve your mood.

Talk to friends. Talk to your friends to help you work through your stress. Friends are good listeners. Finding someone who will let you talk freely about your problems and feelings without judging you does a world of good. It also helps to hear a different point of view. Friends will remind you that you’re not alone.

Compromise. Sometimes, it’s not always worth the stress to argue. Give in once in awhile.

Write down your thoughts. Have you ever typed an email to a friend about your lousy day and felt better afterward? Why not grab a pen and paper and write down what’s going on in your life! Keeping a journal can be a great way to get things off your chest and work through issues. Later, you can go back and read through your journal and see how you’ve made progress!

Help others. Helping someone else can help you. Help your neighbor, or volunteer in your community.

Get a hobby. Find something you enjoy. Make sure to give yourself time to explore your interests.

Set limits. When it comes to things like work and family, figure out what you can really do. There are only so many hours in the day. Set limits with yourself and others. Don’t be afraid to say NO to requests for your time and energy.

Plan your time. Think ahead about how you’re going to spend your time. Write a to-do list. Figure out what’s most important to do.

Don’t deal with stress in unhealthy ways. This includes drinking too much alcohol, using drugs, smoking, or overeating

Susan asks…

How do I manage stress, time, anxiety, work, moving out of my parents, paying bills, and 1st pregnancy?

I am recentlly living with my parents and they have dropped the bomb, that they are moving and I have one mone to find a place to live.well not exactly, my mother is kicking me out of the house.
